White Rose x Syte
Some projects test your agility as much as your creativity. That was certainly the case when we worked with White Rose, to help them transition online during the height of the pandemic. White Rose supports the Aegis Trust, a genocide prevention charity we first encountered through our long-term collaboration with the National Holocaust Centre. With stores closed in March 2020 and no ecommerce presence, their future looked uncertain. Our job was to create a film which would launch their new digital platform and show supporters how they could continue to shop for a cause.
Working with White Rose and their tech partner Syte, we developed a storyboard which showed the scale and spirit of their operation. Filming took us across their Sheffield outlets and warehouse, capturing everything from fashion rails to staff preparing online orders. The aim was to give viewers confidence in the new system – showing that this was still the White Rose they knew, but now with an online presence.
One of the biggest challenges came just before filming. The day before the shoot, a member of our crew on another project tested positive for Covid, which meant their entire team had to isolate. With less than 24 hours’ notice, we sourced a completely new crew, restructured the schedule, and pressed ahead. This kind of flexibility is exactly what film production in Sheffield and South Yorkshire sometimes demands – finding solutions under pressure while keeping standards high.
The final film combined on-location footage with a clear narrative about White Rose’s shift to ecommerce. It struck the right tone: practical enough to explain the new system, but emotive enough to remind viewers why the charity exists and why their support matters.
Feedback from both White Rose and the Aegis Trust was excellent. The film played a key role in keeping sales flowing during an incredibly difficult time, helping the organisation survive and continue funding vital work.
